The concentration of the channels in the hands and feet reflects the importance of these areas in acupuncture therapy. According to traditional theory, the relationship of the hand and foot to diseases of the trunk and head is that of Root or Origin to the Branch or End (see Section I, chapter 4 ). The Qi which circulates through the channels of the body is said to arise in the hands and feet. Thus, stimulation of points on the hands and feet affects, through the channels, diseases in distant parts of the body. 手腳經絡的集中反映了這些區域在針灸治療中的重要性。依照傳統理論，手足與軀幹、頭部疾病的關係是本源與枝末的關係（見第一節第四章）。在身體經絡中循環的氣產生於手和腳。因此，刺激手腳上的穴位，透過經絡影響身體遠處部位的疾病。

Lumbar and Leg 腰部和腿部

Location:1.5 units anterior to transverse crease on dorsum of wrist, at radial side of the tendon of the 2nd extensor digitorum manus (1st point), and the ulnar side of 4th (2nd point) 位置：腕背橫紋前1.5寸，第2指掌伸肌腱橈側（第1點）、第4指肌腱尺側（第2點）

Indications: Pain of lower back and leg, lower back sprain 主治：腰腿痛、腰扭傷

Ankle　踝

Location: At the border of the light and dark skin on radial side of thumb at the metacarpophalangeal joint. 位置：在拇指橈側，掌指關節處，淺色皮膚與深色皮膚交界處。

Indications: Pain of ankle joint．　主治：踝關節疼痛

Chest 胸部

Location: At the border of the light and dark skin on radial side of thumb at the interphalangeal joint. 位置：拇指橈側指間關節處，淺色皮膚與深色皮膚交界處。

Indications: Chest pain, vomiting and diarrhea, seizures. 主治：胸痛、嘔吐腹瀉、癲癇發作。

Eye 眼睛

Location: At the border of the light and dark skin on ulnar side of thumb at the interphalangeal joint. 位置：拇指尺側指間關節明、暗皮膚交界處。

Indications: Eye pain, eye diseases. 主治：眼痛、眼疾。

Shoulder 肩膀

Location: At the border of the light and dark skin on radial side of index finger at the metacarpophalangeal joint. 位置：食指橈側，掌指關節處，淺色皮膚與深色皮膚交界處。

Indications: Shoulder pain. 主治：肩部疼痛

Forehead 前額

Location: At the border of the light and dark skin on the radial side of index finger and the first interphalangeal joint. 位置：食指橈側與第一指間關節明暗皮膚交界處。

Indications: Frontal headache, stomach spasms, acute gastroenteritis, acute, uncomplicated appendicitis, pain of knee joint. 主治：額頭痛、胃痙攣、急性胃腸炎、急性單純性闌尾炎、膝關節疼痛

Vertex 頂點

Location: At the border of the light and dark flesh on medial side of middle finger at the first interphalangeal joint. 位置：中指內側第一指間關節明暗肉交界處。

Indications: Nervous headache, headache at vertex 主治：神經性頭痛、頭頂頭痛

Side of Head 頭部側面

Location: At the border of the light and dark flesh on ulnar side of fourth finger at the first interphalangeal joint 位置：無名指尺側第一指間關節明暗肌交界處

Indications: Migraine headache, pain of chest and ribs, pain in region of spleen and liver, colic of the gall bladder 主治：偏頭痛、胸肋痛、脾肝區痛、膽絞痛

Hiccough 打嗝

Location: At the mid-point of transverse crease on dorsum of middle finger at the second interphalangeal joint. 定位：中指指背橫紋中點，第二指間關節處。

Occiput 枕骨

Location: At the border of the light and dark skin on ulnar side of little finger at the first interphalangeal joint 位置：小指尺側第一指間關節明暗皮膚交界處

As far back as the Inner Classic it was suggested that certain diseases could be treated by stimulating points on the side of the body opposite that of the disease. (See Simple Questions, chapter 63) This principle is generally applied to hand acupuncture. A disease affecting the left side of the body is treated by inserting needles in the right hand, and vice versa. Hand acupuncture points are named according to either a part of the body which they affect, e.g., the Sciatic Nerve point is named for its effect upon the sciatic nerve, or according to a disease for which they are indicated, e.g., the Malaria point for malaria Points should be selected on the same basis. A point selected for the primary condition or symptom can be matched with a point indicated for a secondary symptom.

Method
1) A #28-30 gauge needle, 1-2 inches in length is recommended. After cleaning the site with alcohol, the needle is usually inserted to a depth of0.3-0.5 inch. Moderate to strong stimulation is applied. The needle is ordinarily retained for only 3-5 minutes. 建議使用長度為 1-2 英吋的 #28-30 號針。用酒精清潔該部位後，針頭通常插入0.3-0.5英吋的深度。施加中度至強刺激。針一般只保留3-5分鐘。
2) When needling the Lumbar and Leg point on the hand, the needle should be inserted at a 15°-30° angle to the surface of the skin, between the tendon of the Extensor digitorum and the metacarpal bone, to a depth of 0.5-0.8 inch. 針刺手部腰腿穴時，進針應與皮膚表面成15°-30°角，在指伸肌腱與掌骨之間，深度0.5-0.8吋。

3) When treating lower back sprain or sprain of the soft tissues at other joints, needling should be accompanied by massage or exercise of the affected part. 治療腰部扭傷或其他關節軟組織扭傷時，刺針時應配合按摩或鍛鍊患部。
4) When treating painful diseases, after the pain has stopped, manipulation of the needle should continue for 2-3 minutes. If necessary, the needle can be retained for longer periods, or an intradermal needle embedded in the skin. 治療疼痛性疾病時，疼痛停止後，應繼續行針2～3分鐘。如有必要，可以將針保留更長時間，或將皮內針嵌入皮膚。
5) Electro-acupuncture may also be used in cases where extended periods of stimulation are required. 在需要長時間刺激的情況下也可以使用電針。

Other considerations

• The stimulation from hand and foot acupuncture is usually quite intense, causing the patient some pain. This should be explained to the patient in advance, and precautions taken to prevent fainting. 手足針的刺激通常比較強烈，會帶給患者一些疼痛。應提前向患者解釋這一點，並採取預防措施以防止暈厥。
• When inserting a needle along the surface of a bone, the physician must be careful to avoid damaging the periosteum. 當沿著骨頭表面插入針時，醫生必須小心，避免損壞骨膜。
